So today we’re going to talk about a few simple things you can change that won’t put you out but will make you feel like you’re making difference to your health and therefore your life!

Toothpaste

If you are not aware by now, shop bought toothpaste actually has several toxic ingredients in them. Here’s a link explaining what and why these ingredients are toxic.
So what are you meant to do if you want great dental hygene minus the toxins? Over the past year natural ingredients like coconut oil and active charcoal have flooded the internet. These two ingredients are perfect for keeping your mouth healthy. There are many different alternatives to how you can make it, some people add aloe vera, turmeric, baking soda etc but the simplest way is equal parts coconut oil and active charchol with as many drops of peppermint oil as you like. Coconut oil in anti-bacterial and charcoal draws out the unfriendlies in your mouth.

Deodorant 

Not being able to sweat is detrimental for your body and that is exactly what shop bought deodorant does – blocking the pores. A natural way to combat this is coconut oil and bicarbonate of soda. The coconut oil will kill all the bacteria that creates a bad smell while keeping your underarm skin smooth and moisturised and the bicarbonate of soda will absorb the moisture from sweating. There are so many recipes found on the internet, all it takes is a quick search through Pinterest.

Sunscreen

Even though sun screen does protect you from the sun, recently it’s made us very uncomfortable when looking at the ingredients on the back of a product and we’ve no clue what it is. It is quite complicated to make sunscreen however a visual aid such as YouTube is amazing, there are some amazing DIY people on there. For those who want the simple route, here are a list of natural oils and their SPF’s, we would also suggest adding zinc oxide as it protects against UVA and UVB light and is also a natural non-toxic ingredient that helps to prevent burns, signs of ageing and irritation. Adding a bit of aloe vera gel to help moisturise and cool will also help in hot weather.

Sulphate Free Shampoo

It’s no secret that when you wash your hair with shop bought shampoo, you’re indeed washing all the dirt from your hair however it also strips away your hairs natural goodness. So more and more people are switching to sulphate free shampoo. Using a pre-poo (pre shampoo of course) of coconut oil, then washing with a mixture of 1/8 Apple cider vinegar and 7/8 water will leave your hair beautifully conditioned and extra shiny and strong! Different hair textures can use different ratios of the ingredients, so experiment and play around with it, believe us, your hair will thank you!

Homemade Exfoliation

We’re always looking for new ways to make our skin look and feel better. If you’re looking for an easy but effective body exfoliator there are a few amazing combinations. Ingredients that are perfect for moisturising are Coconut oil, Olive oil, Honey and Aloe vera. A couple great exfoliators are ground coffee and sugar. To be perfectly honest DIY for the skin make us so excited because the combinations are endless! It’s really about finding out what your skin needs and finding the right ingredients to do the job. As a rule of thumb, if it’s good for your body, it’s probably good for your skin.

Makeup Remover

After your day rub coconut oil into your skin, this will keep it moisturised while removing all your stubborn make-up. Then wipe it off with a warm flannel. You won’t need to moisturise afterwards as the coconut oil will do that for you.

Cough Mixture

I’m not sure if there will ever be a cure for the common cold so for now we’ll have to keep finding things to sooth it. Instead of using lozenges and sugary medicinal syrups, have a tea spoon of coconut oil then boil a blend of ginger, lemon and honey. The coconut oil will sooth your throat. All the ingredients separately have natural medicinal qualities in itself but together they help create a calming and relaxing drink which will aid boost your immune system.

Pre Ageing Wrinkle Cream

Read an article recently explaining that most of the products that say they’re anti ageing are in fact, not. We looked into it and many of them didn’t have any ingredients that actually help keep skin looking young, full of elasticity. The answer? Again, natural oils. Apply every night and watch your face stay young and perky.

Personal Lubricant

Despite personal opinion, this is an extremely important product. As females we need to be extremely careful what we put near our intimate area. Many women have had irritation and burning from shop bought lubricants, and as much has they try to be natural and vagina friendly, nothing can be more natural then natural.
